My Favorite Blue

DS Phthalo Blue (red shade) is my favorite blue. The DS brand makes up most of my palette and Phthalo Blue is always in the mix.

Most of my paintings are done with Daniel Smith paints. I love the colors and the way they move on the paper . It is my go to brand. Great quality and the sale price was added bonus.

beautiful watercolor

Most painters that have tried Daniel Smith will tell you how great it is. My favorite aspect is the granulation - the beautiful way it separates and moves through the water. Some colors allow for more even washes but overall I'd say lean in to it, like with the Rose of Ultramarine. It separates slightly into blue and purple tones that would be difficult to replicate any other way. I also have the Phthalo Green and it has an intense pigment that makes it go a long way. Highly recommended.
